Amitabha Buddha, also known as Amida or Amitāyus, is a celestial Buddha in Mahayana Buddhism. He is revered as the Buddha of Infinite Light and Infinite Life and is central to the Pure Land Buddhist tradition. According to the teachings, Amitabha vowed to create a pure land, called Sukhavati or the Western Paradise, where all beings who call upon his name with faith can be reborn. In this pure land, conditions are perfect for attaining enlightenment.
Amitabha is often depicted seated in meditation, with a serene expression, and his hands in the Dhyana mudra (meditation gesture). His color is usually golden or red, symbolizing the setting sun, and he is sometimes shown with a radiant halo or aura of light.
